What are the GSMA’s Asia Mobile Awards and what do they aim to do?

The Asia Mobile Awards – or AMOs – offer organisations across the region’s mobile ecosystem (including vertical industries) the opportunity to showcase the latest and greatest mobile products, apps, devices, services and initiatives to the industry and the world. They are open to all eligible mobile companies and supporters of the mobile ecosystem – including GSMA Members, Associate Members and Non-members.

The presentation of the Awards takes place during the Mobile World Congress Shanghai (27 – 29 June 2018).

What are the Awards for?

The AMOs recognise everything from game-changing mobile devices and technologies, to applications and services developed for, or available in Asian markets, showcasing the ever growing value that mobility brings to users, industries, businesses, communities and economies across Asia’s countries and regions.

How long have they been running?

The AMOs were first presented in 2006 at the GSMA’s Asia events in Singapore, then Hong Kong and Macau until 2010. This year is the third year, they return to the Mobile World Congress Shanghai.

What is the GSMA?

The GSMA represents the interests of mobile operators worldwide, uniting nearly 800 operators with more than 300 companies in the broader mobile ecosystem, including handset and device makers, software companies, equipment providers and Internet companies, as well as organisations in adjacent industry sectors. The GSMA also produces industry-leading events such as Mobile World Congress, Mobile World Congress Shanghai, Mobile World Congress Americas and the Mobile 360 Series conferences. Who can enter the Awards?

See eligibility sections within the individual awards categories. The Asia Mobile Awards recognise and celebrate all contributions made to the evolving and developing mobile industry in Asia. Companies and organisations from all over the world are welcome to enter as long as they serve customers in countries and regions of Asia with commercially available services, applications, or products that are either created, manufactured or available in at least one market of the region.

How do you define the Asia Region?

We define Asia as the North, East, South and South East Asia Regions, plus the Pacific Region.

How do I enter the Awards?

By completing the online entry form once you have decided which category or categories you wish to enter. In the category information page, click the “Submit Your Entries” button. The specific questions you will be asked on this form are also provided as a preview within the category descriptions so that you can prepare your answers.

How many Award entries can I submit?

Multiple entries may be submitted. You can enter as many different categories as you wish. There is no limit on the number of entries you may submit per category. See below for applicable fees.

Do I have to be a member of the Association to enter the Awards?

No. The Awards are open to all eligible mobile companies, and supporters of the mobile eco system – GSMA Members, Associate Members and Non-members.

When can I enter?

Entries for the AMOs are welcome now – completed entry forms and payment must be received by the closing date of Wednesday, 11 April 2018.

When is the entry deadline?

The entry deadline for the AMOs 2018 is Wednesday, 11 April 2018.

Is there an entry fee?

Yes – Entry fees are payable for each entry submitted, for categories (except for 4YFN Startup of the Year) as follows:

  • $90 USD per entry by GSMA Members/Associate Members
  • $120 USD per entry by Non GSMA Members
Note: All categories are open for submission here, except categories 4a & 4b (Best Mobile Devices) and 7a (Outstanding Contribution to the Asian Mobile Industry) which are by Judges’ nomination only.

Why can’t I enter the Devices category?

This process for categories 4a & 4b (Best Mobile Devices) is designed to recognise a combination of criteria (from ergonomic design to value, performance, innovation and tangible measured market success) to find the best, most innovative devices, with the highest demand on the market, we select judges who study devices and their impact on the market for a living, to put forward their nominations and decide the winner. This way we ensure we consider the widest possible selection of devices on the market with an independent and objective methodology.

Why is there an entry fee?

As the GSMA is a non-profit organisation, the entry fees help cover the costs associated with the administration and processing of entries received. Fees also contribute towards publicity, marketing and other costs for the Awards as well as to the Awards event itself.

How can payment be made?

On-line payment by credit card is preferred. We accept international credit cards – AMEX, Visa and Mastercard. For queries regarding payment, please contact awards@asiamobileawards.com.

If credit card payment is not possible, you can do a wire transfer, bank details can be found here. Please Note – Entries will not be processed until full payment has been received.

Are the fees refundable if I decide to cancel my entry?

Entry fees are non-refundable once payment has been submitted.

Will I be sent an acknowledgement and/or receipt for my entry?

On completing and submitting the entry form, you will be sent an Entry Reference number, which should be used in any queries.

What supporting materials are allowed?

Additional on-line documents are accepted for each category. Video submissions are strongly recommended to help our judges significantly in terms of visualising the use case and understanding the innovation and user benefits.

Best Mobile Apps: For category 2a. Best Mobile App for Connected Living and 3a. Best Mobile App for Business, we request entrants to please provide a link to where the app can be downloaded on one of the main app stores, or your website and a redemption code for free access (if the app is not free) so that our judges can download and experience the app for themselves.

4YFN Startup of the Year: For category 5. 4YFN Startup of the Year, the entry submission and judging process will be managed by the 4YFN team, please refer to the criteria and eligibility on the 4YFN entry form.

Please keep supporting information submitted to a maximum of:

  • One x 3 minute (maximum) video
  • Three x 1 page documents with further information, images, graphics etc.
  • Three x web pages (which should be very specific to the entry) linked by URLs
Video: Please provide a URL link to your video (e.g. via YouTube, Vimeo, Youku or other public, English language video platforms) on the entry form and if required, please make sure you provide a password. Videos should ideally be in the English language or with English subtitles.

Other supporting information to a maximum of three x 1 page documents, could consist of independent information or data, extracts from analysts’ reports, testimonials or press articles, graphics etc. to support your entry. Please do make sure this supporting information is succinct and clear.

Web pages: If pointing judges to a website within your supporting materials or entry, please include a URL which is to very specific information relating to your entry, up to a maximum of three web pages, as judges will not have time to search websites looking for the pertinent information.

The on-line entry form includes an upload facility for you to provide the above links and documents. You will have the ability to upload three additional files to accompany your entry up to a maximum file size of 5MB each. These can be pdfs, jpegs, word documents or PowerPoint, but please, as above, keep these relevant to your entry and keep the pages to a minimum of one per document.

What formats should I send for video and picture materials?

As above, the on-line entry form includes an upload facility for you to provide multimedia. You will have the ability to upload 3 additional files to accompany your entry up to a maximum file size of 5MB each. These can be illustration pdfs, such as for customer testimonials, jpeg for photos or PowerPoint for technical diagrams or statistics, word for text documents etc. but please keep these relevant to your entry and keep the pages to a minimum of one for each document. You can also provide one URL to a video link for public video platforms and if required, please make sure you provide a password.

When will the nominations be announced?

The GSMA will announce the full shortlist of nominees in early June 2018.

When will the winners be announced?

The winners will be presented at the Mobile World Congress Shanghai on Wednesday, 27 June 2018. Full details of the ceremony will be published soon.

How does the judging process work?

Entries will be judged against the criteria outlined in each of the category descriptions and the specific information requested on the entry forms. Assessment by the judges will take place in May 2018 and discussions and decisions based solely on this information supplied.

Who are the judges?

The judges are independent journalists, analysts, academic and subject matter experts and in some cases mobile operator representatives, from across Asia.

When and where does the Awards Ceremony take place?

The Asia Mobile Awards Ceremony takes place at Mobile World Congress Shanghai on Wednesday, 27 June 2018, unless advised otherswise at the Mobile World Congress Shanghai (27 – 29 June 2018).

How do I attend the AMOs Ceremony?
